Aloha mai,
We had about 50 people show up for our second Saturday workday. We cleared the trees we cut down, fixed kuauna on 4 different loi, weeded all the loi, halihali branches and weed whacked the bird pond/fish pond trail, and moved mulch to the wauke spot. Was action! Kaleo After a general membership meeting and talk-story session with Kaleo Wong, members of the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club carried away much of a downed African tulip (the work of a newly formed and identically acronymed Kailua Hawaiian Chainsaw Club), and replanted a section of pua‘a-ravaged lo‘i at the foot of the heiau. The club now gathers under the Ulupō hala tree on the first Sunday of every month to meet, eat, and work. -- Kihei de Silva
Aloha mai,
I had the pleasure of working with Malama Honua PCS K, 1, and 3rd grade came to Ulupo today, their entire school except for 2nd grade. We are making plans to host them every Monday since they come to the YMCA for swimming that day anyway. One of the kumu is the sister of Noa Hussey, the executive director of the YMCA. Besides being hard workers cleaning a loi, these kids are akamai loa and makaukau especially when it comes to oli/mele and retaining moolelo. Ke aloha, Kaleo |
