MADAM CHAIR

9/29/2020

In keeping with Hikaʻalani’s vision of serving as a center of cultural exchange for the indigenous peoples of the Pacific, our e.d./kumu/aunty/mom/wife has sat on the 27-nation Council of Pacific Arts and Culture since 2000 and chaired it since 2016.  Best known for administering the Festival of Pacific Arts, CPAC’s greater responsibility is that of advancing a Pacific Regional Culture Strategy that will “keep the essential role of arts and culture at the forefront of Pacific development.” Pictured here during Monday’s 32nd meeting of the council (conducted from our kitchen table for the cultural representatives of Aotearoa, Fiji, Palau, etc.), Māpu reports that: “Today we received the report and update of the Working Group of the Council in regards to our revised PRCS.  The Strategy will be taken to the Ministers of Culture of all 27 nations for discussion and adoption at a meeting that will be held in June 2021.”
