Thanks to HTA, we were able to buy a pair of fancy-but-sturdy trash receptacles for the lawn fronting the heiau parking lot: one bin for regular ʻōpala and the other for cans and bottles. We're hoping, next year, for money to buy matching benches for the two that are falling apart under the monkeypods. And then there's the monkeypods themselves – the falling branches, the pōhaku de-stabilizing roots, and the weed-nurturing compost of leaves filling the spaces between those pōhaku ... –KdS

The little school that was brave enough to change its name continues to demonstrate a commitment to viewing education through a land-based lens.The faculty of Kaʻōhao School came to Ulupō in September, the 4th graders in November, and the 3rd graders in December. All came to learn, through hands-on work, the lessons of mud and kalo, ‘āina and Hāloa. – KdS
